POEMS:
LEOPARD TORTOISE
Leopard Tortoise, what’s in your
name?
You don’t look like a leopard or
are you the same?
You walk so slowly with your
house on you back
What a clever plan to keep you
safe from attack
And dry from the rain and safe from
the heat
You can go anywhere on your big
strong feet
4 x 4 across rocky lands
looking for food, and ladies I
might add
Flowers and leaves, succulent
treats
These give you water in the food
that you eat
So what’s in your name? Oh! ...
it is on your shell
That beautiful pattern, like
leopard fur, I can tell!
OWL
Hu-hoo, hu-hooo
Swoop
At night you fly beneath the
stars
That’s why your eyes are so very
large
To see your way between the
trees
And catch your prey before it
flees
They say you are a wisdom bird
And if we listen we might hear
You whisperings with the trees
Messages brought on the breeze
Hu-hoo, hu-hoo
Listen there
Owl is talking
He wants to share
PORCUPINE
Porcupine, scratch around
Find your bulbs in the ground
Watsonias, Freesias and Chinkering cheese
You eat them all and smile with glee
Leave the skins for us to see
Then we know where you have been
With little digs on the path
Maybe a porcupine quill
I will find one at last!
